The Estate Agents Council has blacklisted 79 Estate agents not to be officially registered at the council for most. In some cases, the entities/individuals are not registering the proper account.
In a public statement, the Estate Agents Council also notified the people to beware of dealing with these blacklisted entities further that the Compensation Fund and the council will not be in any way liable in case of a loss that occurs due to these dealings.
The council publicly notified the people that the named entities and proprietors are illegally working as estate agents cannot, therefore, trade in the domestic real estate market of Zimbabwe, which includes assistance in selling and maintenance of properties.
The entities and proprietors failed to follow the legislative requirements and guidelines of operations set by the council, which were made to ensure financial and legal security for the people investing in the industry. A Priority among these requirements was to have a PREA (Principal Registered Estate Agent) in place. The council advised the people to refrain from engaging in business with these estate agencies. The Compensation Fund and Estate Agents Council state that they will not accept any liability for any omissions or actions from these entities within the industry.
Among the agents blacklisted by the council, some have closed their operations, whereas the remaining ones do not possess a Compensation Fund Certificate.
Many have been victims of such fraudulent estate agents who keenly market fake properties in the local media or house leasing to scam the people. These cases have grown in recent years.
