Kwekwe Gives MSU Vast Tracts of Land

The Midlands State University will no doubt be happy to be in Kwekwe considering the offer made by the Kwekwe City Council. The University was offered land to extend to extend its facility. The Kwekwe City Council made the donation to Midlands State University following the school’s interest to establish its campus in the mining town. The vast tracts of land, according to MSU will accommodate new campuses. The increase its campuses will enable MSU to accommodate more students and provide quality education.

The new land donated by the Kwekwe City Council will house different faculties which include faculty of Natural Resources Management, Law and Agriculture.

The Midlands State University (MSU) already has campuses in different locations such as Harare, Zvishavane and currently incubating one in Swaziland. MSU is working hard to increase its capacity as well as the number of students it can admit. The university’s plan is to increase the current capacity of 22,000 students it can accommodate to over 60,000. The school is aiming to achieve their goal in the next five years.

Matenda Madzoke, Kwekwe mayor Councilor stated that they were more than happy to have a reputable institution like Midlands State University in the town. He also gave a statement that following a meeting, the council came to a conclusion that MSU should be offered land to increase the number of campuses it currently has. MSU was given more than 182 hectares of land to setup their campus in Kwekwe. According to Cllr Madozoke, “We are more than happy with the current development taking place in the town. We know the development will transform this mining town into something more attractive.”

The establishment of MSU in Kwekwe will benefit the people greatly. It will not only bring employment but generate revenue for the town. It will also place Kwekwe in the spotlight, thus making other potential investors view the city as a viable destination.

Cllr Madzoke also said, “To prove that we are ready and fully support the establishment of a campus by Midlands State University in our town, we allocated more than 82 ha of land which is a complete farm. The establishment of Midlands State University in our town will positively affect revenue flow as well as the development of the city.”

According to Cllr Madzoke, the mining town’s socio-economic activity will positively be affected by this development.
